The Putnam County SPCA is detailing a disturbing case in the Town of Southeast.

Putnam County SPCA Receives Disturbing Call

In a statement shared to social media, the Putnam County SPCA shared details about decapitated birds found in the Town of Southeast.

The Putnam County SPCA explains that back on May 24th, 2026 Putnam County SPCA Law Enforcement Division "received a report from a fisherman in the area of Old Milltown Road, Town of Southeast."

The fisherman came across "several dead and possibly mutilated birds" near the shoreline of Sodom Reservoir.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene they came across a disturbing sight.

According to their press release "Upon arrival officers observed: Two (2) decapitated roosters. Two (2) decapitated white doves."

The statement goes on to add:

The birds were found strewn about the ground near a tree, within feet of the waters of Sodom Reservoir.

If you have any information regarding the incident  they are asked to contact the Putnam County SPCA Law Enforcement Division at 845-520-6915. You can also report any acts of Animal Cruelty to that number 24/7.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Similar Animal Cruelty Incidents Reported in Putnam County

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time animal cruelty like this has been in reported in Putnam County.

In their statement from May 24th the Putnam County SPCA explains:

The Putnam County SPCA notes that similar incidents have been observed recently within the Putnam County area.

In March 2026 there were reports of 7 mutilated animals near the shoreline of Lake Carmel. SPCA Detectives arrived a the scene and found "two white garbage bags and one cardboard box."

In the boxes they discovered "chickens, roosters, and doves all of which had been decapitated and severely mutilated."
