Controversial Party Becoming Popular Here in New York
Many New York residents and people across the country have mixed thoughts on throwing this type of party.
Divorce is a very difficult thing to have happen to anyone and it can be a very tough subject to talk about. No matter how you look at it, it's a big loss for a person/family involved and someone's life is never the same after it.
Our world is a little bit odd today for both good and bad reasons....lol. A lot of tough topics and conversations are handled very differently compared to how they were in the past. That's good and bad....there's not as much stigma attached to things, but it also creates an environment where people don't take a lot of things too seriously and make them laughable.

What controversial party is on the rise in New York?
The new trend....having a divorce party. According to evite, there's been a 22% increase in divorce party invitations since 1999 and a new record was set for them in 2023. Many people are throwing parties ( some very elaborate) to celebrate the end of their marriage and the start of their new chapter.
Here are some of the most popular messages used on divorce party invitations:
- "I do, I did, I'm done"
- "Newly UNwed"
- "Problem Solved"
- "Finally Free"
- "In my divorce era"
Points for creativity on a few of those.
How do people today feel about marriage, divorce and throwing a divorce party?
The feeling is all over the place. According to Pew Research Center, 40% of Americans are pretty pessimistic about the thought of marriage, 25% are optimistic and 29% say they are not optimistic or pessimistic about the whole issue. So it does seem like the whole thought of marriage and how to handle it is very different these days. Now I am one to NEVER turn down a party, but I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand, it's great to be able to look at things lightly and rise above tough times, but I'm not sold that having a divorce party is the best way to do it. I think a small dinner with friends who show their support and love might be the best way to embrace a new start, but that's just my thoughts.
There have already been a few divorce parties in New York and it seems like they are going to become more popular as time goes on...What are your thoughts? Do you think the idea of a divorce party is good or bad? Share your thoughts with us on the station app:
