Donald Trump Just Became the Third New York President to Accomplish This
Donald Trump just pulled off something only two other New York-born presidents have ever done.
What is it? We’ll get there. But first, let’s take a look at the big personalities who’ve sat in the Oval Office with New York roots.
Only a few U.S. presidents have come out of New York, but the ones who did? Let’s just say they didn’t exactly fly under the radar.
From tough times to big reforms, these leaders made waves—yet only two had previously managed this specific accomplishment.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt – Hyde Park (32nd President)
Meet FDR, the king of presidential terms. This Hyde Park native didn’t stop at two terms; he kept going for an unprecedented four. During the Great Depression, FDR introduced the New Deal and later led the nation through World War II.
He’s basically the ultimate example of a New York president who changed the country, term after term.
Theodore Roosevelt – New York City (26th President)
Then there’s Teddy Roosevelt, whose passion for conservation was legendary. Starting out as McKinley’s VP, he took over after the assassination, won re-election in 1904, and spent almost two full terms shaking things up with bold reforms and a “speak softly, but carry a big stick” style.
And now… drumroll… Donald J. Trump joins this exclusive New York club.
That’s right, he’s now the third president from New York to secure a second term.
Whether you love him or don’t, there’s no denying this accomplishment lands him in some pretty elite Empire State company.
New York doesn’t produce presidents often, but when it does, they go big.
Trump’s latest move has put him right up there with some of the biggest names in presidential history.
The New York-born presidents who served only one term were:
Millard Fillmore - He became the 13th president after the death of Zachary Taylor and served from 1850 to 1853, but he didn’t win re-election.
Martin Van Buren - The 8th president, serving from 1837 to 1841. Van Buren sought re-election but lost.
