Update, Nov. 1, 2016: This story has been updated to reflect that the misdemeanor charges were reduced to violations.

State Police say a highly intoxicated man threatened a victim with a knife, struck the victim in the head, and damaged parts of a taxi.

Around 11:30 p.m. New York State Police responded to the New York State Thruway near Exit 6 (Yonkers) for a report of a taxi driver who needed help with a potentially drunk patron. Following an investigation police allege that a highly intoxicated passenger had threatened the victim with a knife, struck the victim in the head, and damaged the divider in the taxi.

Police identified the passenger as a 40-year-old Rye resident. He was arrested and charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, both misdemeanors. He was also charged with harassment and disorderly conduct, both violations.

The misdemeanor charges were later reduced in a plea agreement to violations, according to court documentats provided to the Hudson Valley Post.
