Dog owners plan to attend a town board meeting to fight the closure of a dog park in Dutchess County.

The Town of LaGrange voted in late October to close the See Spot Run Dog Park at Overlook Park in the Town of LaGrange. The decision to permantly close the dog park came after the town received a number of complaints from residents.

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, officials received nine written complaints regarding the dog park located behind the football field at Overlook Park this year. The majority of the complaints came from residents who said they felt unsafe, others were not following the rules, animals were attacking or biting humans. A town employee was bitten according to one documented incident.

A number of people who regularly bring their dogs to the park believe the complaints are exaggerated and feel it’s no different than what goes on at other parks. They have joined together and plan to voice their displeasure with the parks closing at a Town of LaGrange board meeting Wednesday.
