A section of Route 55 will close on March 22 as the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) replaces a bridge over Jackson Creek in Union Vale.

The NYSDOT presented the proposed construction schedule to Union Vale officials last Wednesday. Route 55 will be closed from Route 82 to East Noxon Road/Bruzgul Road with a 5.2-mile detour leading drivers from Route 82 to Noxon Road/East Noxon Road and back to Route 55.

The detour will last at least four month, with the section of Route 55 expected to reopen on July 25. Utility and tree work will begin March 16 as construction crews prepare the site for the bridge replacement.

The Jackson Creek bridge replacement is part of a NYSDOT project to replace six bridges in Columbia and Dutchess Counties. Other structures to be replaced during the project include two bridges over Sprout Creek on Route 82 in Union Vale and East Fishkill and a bridge over the Sawkill Creek on Route 199 in the Town of Milan.
