Ford has issued a recall that stands as one of the largest series of recalls in U.S. history.

Ford is recalling more than 953,000 vehicles worldwide to replace Takata passenger air bag inflators that can explode and hurl shrapnel.

Of the 953,000, 782,000 U.S. vehicles are included in the recall, but may be limited to certain geographical areas.

Do you or someone you know have one of the following vehicles?

  • Ford Edge (2010)
  • Ford Ranger (2010, 2011)
  • Lincoln MKX (2010)
  • Ford Fusion (2010, 2011, 2012)
  • Lincoln MKZ (2010, 2011, 2012)
  • Mercury Milan (2010, 2011)
  • Ford Mustang (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014)

The report indicates that the chemical used to inflate the air bags can deteriorate over time due to heat and humidity, causing a powerful explosion that will send shrapnel flying in your vehicle.

You can reference this site to enter your vehicle's information to see if it is included in this recall.  Dealers will be replacing the inflators during a process that is expected to last through 2020.
