A 39-year-old man whose last known residence was the Capri Motel in Port Ewen has pleaded guilty to a charge of promoting prostitution with a minor in the Ulster County Court.

Gregory C. Williams, who formerly lived in Kingston, admitted to advancing or making money from promoting the prostitution of a child under the age of 19 on or about April 10, 2016.

Williams was arrested after a joint investigation by the Ulster County Family and Child Advocacy Center and the Kingston Police Department. The investigation showed that he had attempted to use a 16-year-old child for prostitution.

This marks the first child trafficking conviction in Ulster County since funds were received as part of the Safe Harbour program, which is operated by the New York State Office for Family and Child Services.

Money from the program can be used not only to keep minors safe from being sexually exploited, but also to raise community awareness and training for people who work in this delicate field. That can include not only law enforcement personnel, but also service providers as well.

Other agencies involved in this successful result were the Ulster County Department of Social Services, the Ulster County Probation Department, and the Safe Harbour Critical Team among others.

Williams' case will be prosecuted by the Ulster County Special Victims Bureau Chief Katherine R. Van Loan. Williams will be represented by John Evans, Esq. who works as a member of the Dutchess County Public Defender's Office. Evans was chosen after a conflict of interest with the Ulster County Public Defender's Office was identified.

He is scheduled to appear in Ulster County Court on Feb. 16 for sentencing.
