How All New Paltz Schools Are Providing Free Breakfast & Lunch

This week, the New Paltz Central School District (NPCSD) in Ulster County, NY made a major announcement: every student in every school will receive free meals for both breakfast and lunch.

For many residents who grew up in the Hudson Valley, the news might sound too good to be true. Here's how the district was able to provide such a massive benefit to their students, and what it means for the community.

"Exciting News for New Paltz families!", began a recent post from the NPCSD's Facebook page (below). "The New Paltz Central School District is now providing breakfast and lunch at no cost to all students in all schools". The benefit was made possible by a specific New York State Education Department program.

Details on Free Meals in the New Paltz Central School District

As of September 4th 2024, New Paltz Central School District will receive funds from the National School Lunch Act under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) to provide free meals to students. One way that this program is different from past initiatives is that there are no eligibility requirements for students to qualify.

No Applications Required for New Free Meal Program in New Paltz, NY

According to the NPCSD, no application is required and no eligibility guidelines exist for students to begin receiving free meals, however parents and guardians are encouraged to fill out this form if they believe they could qualify for additional benefits.
