A few years back I attended my first Narcan training as part of an overdose awareness initiative at the college I was working for and it was really enlightening.  I'd recommend the opportunity to anyone looking to not only educate themselves on the subject of drug overdose, but also to those who feel comfortable in stepping up in times of crisis.

A recent post on the Dutchess County Government Facebook Page indicates that there are regular Narcan trainings offered locally, and the ones for August are happening this week:

The Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health offers monthly Narcan training sessions for anyone who believes they may encounter a person who is at risk for an overdose. This month, there will be two trainings.
-Wednesday, August 28th, from 4:30 to 5:30pm at 230 North Road in Poughkeepsie and...
-Saturday, August 31st, at the annual Matt Herring Foundation Annual Overdose Awareness Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park.

Attendees will learn why naloxone works to reverse an overdose, what to do when an overdose is suspected, and how/when to give someone Narcan. Each trainee will receive a FREE Narcan kit to carry.

I keep a Narcan kit in my car, and one in my office, in my opinion, better to be safe and prepared in case of an emergency.
