A handgun was recovered after a Newburgh man struggled with officers, police said. 

The City of Newburgh police were conducting a stationary traffic post and stopped a 2009 Subaru Impreza for equipment violations. While officers were talking with the driver of the vehicle, a passenger in the front fled on foot.

As officers pursued the man, they noticed he kept grabbing his waistband. An officer was able to tackle the man, who allegedly starting fighting with him. During the struggle, a .22 caliber revolver fell from the man's waistband. The weapon was loaded with ten rounds of ammunition, according to a press release. After searching the man, officers also found 100 decks of heroin, 33.40 grams of crack cocaine, and 16 additional rounds of ammunition.

Kaliek Goode-Ford, 26, of Newburgh was arrested and charged with two felony counts of Criminal Possession of a Control Substance, a misdemeanor charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and felony criminal possession of a Weapon. He was held pending arraignment.

The driver of the vehicle left the scene once Goode-Ford fled the vehicle. The vehicle was immediately located and stopped by officers. The driver, Ryan Chillemi, 37, of New Windsor was arrested and charged with obstructing governmental administration and issued tickets for the equipment violations. He was also held pending arraignment.
