An Orange County man accused in the attempted armed robbery of the Quick Stop Deli in Harriman appeared in court Monday.

The Orange County District Attorney's Office said Matthew Bauman, 26, of Harriman stole a gun from his father's home and went to the River Road store on Nov. 24, 2015 intent on robbing it to support his heroin addiction.

Bauman confronted a man outside the deli and allegedly pointed the handgun at him. New York State Police said Bauman demanded money from the 18-year-old, who tried to run away. Bauman then shot him in the back of his shoulder, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office. The teen was treated and released from Westchester Medical Center.

A grand jury indicted Bauman on attempted robbery, attempted assault, assault, grand larceny and weapons offenses.

During Monday's arraignment, Judge Nicholas De Rosa ordered Bauman held in Orange County Jail in lieu of $250,000 cash bail or $750,000 bond. Bauman will next appear in court on Friday, Jan. 15.
