Is This New York State’s Highest-Tech Corn Maze?
Technology can help with far more than AI-generated images and social media algorithms. This year, farmers in upstate New York have used cutting-edge tech to create one of the coolest corn mazes on earth.
With fall in full swing, it's not a question of if you're headed to a local farm, but rather which one. There are plenty of award-winning spots to choose from in the Hudson Valley (below), but a different type of attraction is a little further north.
Fall activities can be broken down into three categories: apple picking, pumpkin picking, and corn maze navigating. While many farms offer all three (Kelder's Farm in Kerhonkson is a great local option), others choose a specialty.

Old McDonald's Farm has nearly everything one could hope for in a farm experience. While pig races and "mega slides" (below) are thrilling, the true star of the upstate destination is their 14-acre corn maze... and how it was created.

"Have you done our 14 acre corn maze yet?", the farm recently asked on Facebook. 2024's maze (below) is titled Sweet Land of Liberty, and was created not my mowing a path, but by using the latest technology in GPS planting.
Corn Maze Made with GPS Planting Technology
"This 14 acre corn maze uses GPS and Precision Farming software and equipment to drop the corn seeds exactly where we want to form the design", the farm shared. The design includes a barn, silo, windmill, tractor, and cow, with the cow acting as its own "easy" maze for children.
Old McDonald's Farm is located in Sackets Harbor, NY near the shores of Lake Ontario, but there are plenty of farm (and farm stand) options across the Hudson Valley as well. Check out some favorites below.
