A highway department worker was seriously injured while paving a roadway in Ulster County.

On Monday, the Town of Marbletown Highway Department was re-surfacing the asphalt on Whitfield Road in the Town of Marbletown. The operator of the paver, Daniel Styles, was standing on the operating platform when another town worker who was operating a compacting roller, failed to observe the paver which had stopped.

According to State Police, the roller collided with the paver pinning Daniel Styles’ right leg between the roller and the paver, causing serious injury.

Styles was airlifted to Albany Medical Center for emergency medical treatment and is currently in serious but stable condition.

State Police were assisted by the Kripplebush Fire Department, Marbletown First Aid, Mobil Life, and Life Net. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
