Looking for good ways to train? Maybe you're thinking about getting into fighting shape for the Insane Inflatable 5K, or just want to get healthier and off the couch?

We all need some motivation now and then. Starting running can be daunting. I should know; I've done it so often. Maybe running playlists don't work.

You should REALLY check out the newly free app "Zombies, Run!". I'm not one to normally need some extra motivation, but I decided to finally give the app a chance.

Yes. I'm cheap.

Anyways. Great design for an app. It's essentially an app that tracks your progress, and as you keep moving you collect items, while playing out a storyline behind you the entire time.

You're a runner in a post-zombie-apocalyptic world.  You start, running towards a human settlement, with someone inside talking to you through your headset. It's actually kind of awesome. You don't feel like you're running by yourself. Your music is running, but muted when the audio from the app cuts in (RadioPup anyone?).

The CRAZIEST thing about this app is that every once in awhile, you'll get a warning that zombies are near and you need to hustle. And I mean HUSTLE. There is nothing, NOTHING creepier than running at night, with the sounds of zombies getting closer in your headphones.  You need to move faster, whether you're walking into a run, or from a jog into a sprint.

You book it until the app tells you that the zombies aren't behind you anymore. The first time I got chased in the app, the hair was standing up on the top of my head. Holy crap was it effective. I get into the moment, you absorb the story, and you're so invested in the idea of it that you don't want the zombies to catch you.

The app is free, so you've got nothing to lose. Eventually you have to move to e subscription for it, but you get to decide if it's worth it. I'm already leaning towards paying for it. It was that good.
