A local Armed Guard was indicted for shooting a female friend in the face while drunk, causing extensive injuries.

According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s office, following a night of drinking in Newburgh, a group of people went to an after-party on Bingham Road in Marlboro.

During the party, 22-year-old Darren Olympia of Newburgh, who was recently certified and licensed for a handgun as an Armed Guard, pulled out a loaded gun.

The gun discharged and a bullet struck a female’s forehead, which blew out her facial bones, officials say.

On Thursday, an Ulster County grand jury indicted Olympia, a Newburgh Armed Guard, with assault, a felony.

Olympia is expected to appear in Ulster County Court for arraignment within a few days.
