Hudson Valley Farm Offering Free Groceries To Those in Need
A farm from the Hudson Valley will be giving out free groceries on Wednesday.
The coronavirus pandemic is forcing many New Yorkers to miss work. On Friday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced all non-essential businesses must have all workers work from home.
Last week, Cuomo closed all restaurants, bars, gyms and movie theaters in the state. Restaurants are allowed to offer take-out and delivery services. Bars can also stay open for take-out or delivery. All indoor portions of malls, bowling alleys and amusement parks must close by 8 p.m. on Thursday. There's no word on how long the new restrictions will be in place. However, stores with their own outdoor entrance can stay open.
On Friday, all barbershops, hair salons, tattoo or piercing parlors, nail salons, hair removal services and related personal care services were closed.
To help many families in need, Common Ground Farm is giving away free groceries for anyone who needs them on Wednesday at Beacon High School from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and South Avenue from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Groceries will be pre-bagged and ready for pick up together with meals provided by the Beacon Central School District. If you need groceries delivered you can email mutualaidbeacon@gmail.com or call/text 845-288-2559.
Common Ground Farm based out of Wappinger Falls is working with Cornell Cooperative Extension, Fareground, Mutual Aid Beacon, Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, Beacon City School District, and Common Ground.
