A Hudson Valley man is accused of slashing someone's throat near Marist College.

On Friday around 1:45 a.m., the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department received a call of an armed robbery at the Mobil on North Road, across the street from Marist College.

Matthew L. Garcia, 26, of Hyde Park, is accused of cutting the store's clerk's neck with a knife and stabbing the clerk a number of times in the torso area before stealing money from the business and fleeing.

The clerk, who survived but with serious injuries, was able to help police identify the suspect, officials say.

Garcia was found later on Friday and charged with attempted murder and robbery, felonies. He was remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.
