Not the best way to celebrate! A Hudson Valley man was shot just hours after turning 41.

Sunday around 3:50 a.m., City of Poughkeepsie police were dispatched to reports of a male with a gunshot wound in the parking lot at the intersection of Church and Academy Streets.

Police from several agencies responded and saw a crowd of people assembling near the victim. Rather than wait for the Mobile Life ambulance, the victim was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

The victim turned 41 on Sunday. Initial police speculation is that the shooting is gang related.

The yet to be identified victim stated to police that he had been celebrating his 41 birthday at Club Ciboney.  He exited the bar to speak with friends, heard a single gunshot, felt pain, and went down.  He did not see who shot him.

According to City of Poughkeepsie Detective Lt. Matt Clark, no one in the large crowd surrounding the victim saw anything either.

The bullet entered the victim's right thigh, exited his right inner thigh, entered his left thigh, and came to rest in his left calf.  The wounds are not life-threatening.

Anyone with information regarding this shooting is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie PD at 451-7577.
