Hudson Valley Man Tried to Murder Wife, Police Say

A Hudson Valley man allegedly waved two large knives and told his children he was going to kill their mother.

On Tuesday, 44-year-old Patrick Loria of Port Jervis was charged with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, all felonies, endangering the welfare of a child and menacing, misdemeanors.

The arrest is the result of an investigation into what police describe as a "violent domestic disturbance," at Loria's house.

Loria allegedly arrived at the home and forced his way into the front door, damaging the door, as his son tried to prevent him from entering.

Officers heard yelling and screaming coming from inside the residence when they arrived, police say. Officers made numerous attempts to make contact with the occupants without success.

Police later saw Loria walking around waving two large butcher and steak knives screaming and yelling, according to the Port Jervis Police Department.

Loria is accused of telling his children he was going to kill their mother. When police forced their way into the home, Loria was still allegedly in possession of both large knives.

After being ordered by the officers to drop the knives, Loria fled to the upstairs of the home where he barricaded himself inside a bathroom, police say.

After a brief stand-off, Loria surrendered without further incident, according to authorities.

Police found the wife hiding in the home, safely removed her and reunited her with her son, officials say.

Loria was remanded to Orange County Jail in lieu of $100,000.
