A staple Meadery of the Hudson Valley will be opening up a storefront in the heart of Poughkeepsie.

The next craft beverage is getting ready to take over Poughkeepsie. Slate Point Meadery will be opening up a tasting room in the Queen City Loft building. It will be next to Fit Social and Zeus Brewing. Slate Point Meadery is known throughout the Hudson Valley for, you guessed it, mead. I reached out to Eric at Slate Point Meadery to get some more information about their mead and their storefront.

Eric said that mead is an alcoholic beverage first and foremost. It's made mainly with honey but can also be blended with other ingredients. It's not beer, it's not wine, it's pretty much its own category. But he said mead isn't sweet like most would expect since it comes from honey. Eric said it can be very sweet or bone dry. "The recipes are endless."

The new taproom will have a variety of meads on tap for either a single glass or a flight.  Their flagship favorites and seasonal batches will be released. It will be a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. There will also be offerings from local food trucks. Expect them to be open Thursday through Sunday. You can follow them for updates on their Facebook.
