A Saugerties man was clearly not in the Christmas spirit when he tried to run over three people, including his own girlfriend, with a car after a dispute over a vehicle he worked on, according to authorities.

Police say on Christmas Eve, John M. Rich, 46, attempted to run over three people after an argument over the mechanical work he performed on one of the victim’s vehicles. One of the victims Rich attempted to run over was his own girlfriend. During the alleged incident, police say Rich was driving his own car.

Rich and two of the victims sustained minor injuries. After being treated at the scene by paramedics one of the unnamed targets was sent to Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley Hospital in Kingston.

Rich was charged with one count of assault, a felony and three counts of reckless endangerment.

Rich was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Justice Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000.00 cash bail. Other charges may be filed as the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

An order of protection was issued on behalf of the female victim
