A 5-month old girl from the Hudson Valley had to be airlifted to a hospital after her mother allegedly hit and tossed the infant.

On Monday, 31-year-old Christina M. Petrocelli of Monticello was charged with felony assault as well as misdemeanors for endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief.

Around 11:15 p.m. Monday, Monticello police responded to a 911 report that stated a 5-month old female infant was assaulted by Petrocelli at a residence in the Village of Monticello.

Petrocelli is the infant’s mother, police say.

A witness at the scene told officers Petrocelli intentionally struck and then tossed the infant, which resulted in facial swelling, bruising and a laceration to the inside of the infant's mouth, police say.

The infant was treated at the scene and then immediately flown by medevac to the Westchester Medical Center.

Petrocelli was arrested at the scene. While at the Monticello police station, Petrocelli was additionally charged for allegedly kicking and breaking a door as well as a wall clock.

Petrocelli was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $40,000 bail.

The infant is now reported to be in stable condition, according to the Monticello Police Department.
