A Hudson Valley teenager who was severely beaten during an apparent robbery attempt by another teenager died from his injuries. A GoFundMe page has been setup for his family.

Last week, Spring Valley Police responded to a report of a possible robbery. Authorities discovered an unconscious male with apparent facial and head injuries. The injured male, later identified as 18-year-old Ruben Torres, from Spring Valley, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. He was later transferred to Westchester Medical Center in grave condition.

Torres died Saturday due to his facial and head injuries. According to his GoFundMe page, doctors said he suffered severe head trauma and cardiac arrest.

Torres lived in Spring Valley with his father and sister. His mother and brothers live in Guatemala. A GoFundMe page is hoping to raise enough money to ship his body back to his mother in Guatemala.

Dany Marroquin, a 26-year-old from Spring Valley and co-worker of Torres, setup the GoFundMe Page. He said Torres was a “very responsible worker.” Someone who was doing everything he could to become a successful person, going to school in the mornings and night while working in the afternoons.

Jiwan Coleman, 16, of Spring Valley, NY was arrested last Tuesday night in connection with the beating. He was charged with 2nd-degree attempted murder and 1st-degree assault. It’s possible his charges will be upgraded.

Spring Valley Police Department is requesting the public’s help by asking anyone with information on this crime to please call Detective Anderson of the Spring Valley PD at (845) 721-9560. All information will remain confidential.
