A Hudson Valley teen is heading for prison for possession of a knife and selling heroin to an undercover informant.

In Putnam County Court, 19-year-old Joseph Kotzur-O’Connor of Carmel was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison, followed by two years parole after he pleaded guilty to a number of charges.

In Feb., he was issued a court appearance ticket for possessing an illegal knife. While his case was pending, Kotzur-O’Connor was charged with selling heroin to a person working with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Enforcement Unit, officials say.

While housed in the Putnam County Correctional Facility, Kotzur-O’Connor is accused of being under the influence of narcotics.

A search of his jail cell revealed that he brought Xanax, Seroquel and a quantity of marijuana into the facility, police say.

In August, Kotzur-O’Connor pleaded guilty to criminal sale of a controlled substance, promoting prison contraband and two-counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
