When the Walkway Over The Hudson opened in 1999, few could have predicted the impact it's had on the area. Between the Highland and Poughkeepsie access points, approximately 500,000 people walked the old train bridge in 2014.

John Barry of the Poughkeepsie Journal reports the Walkway was just featured in Governor Andrew Cuomo's State of the State address, touting the Hudson Valley's important role of bringing tourists to the area. A photo was included in the presentation, and was part of the governor's pledge of $25 million for New York State tourism.

Be sure to visit the official Walkway Over The Hudson Facebook page for more info and some great pictures like the one above from Walkway contributor Fred Schaeffer.

The Walkway has events all year long and registration is now open for the 2015 Walkway Marathon.
