If Hudson Valley Towns Were People at a Party
Reddit is home to countless entertaining threads, but few have the staying power of the "Hudson Valley Towns as People at a Party" on the ever-contentious R/HudsonValley.
What began as a lighthearted joke almost four years ago has evolved into a multi-year conversation, with locals continuously chiming in to keep the fun going.
The Concept is Simple:
Imagine each town in the Hudson Valley as a person at a party, complete with all their quirks and stereotypes.
You’d think it would fizzle out after a few weeks, but nope—years later, people are still adding to the thread, offering updated takes on their hometowns.
Some of My Favorites:
Take Beacon, for example, arriving with a vegan artisanal cheese plate and getting salty when Kingston's version isn’t vegan.
Or New Paltz, dressed in flannel, handing out edibles, and preaching about hiking.
Rhinebeck and Millbrook, naturally, are in the corner talking about NPR and where they summer.
Stone Ridge? They act like they’ve got plenty of cash but somehow never pick up the check.
A peak behind the curtain
What’s crazy is how accurate these portrayals are after all this time. The thread feels like an inside joke that never gets old, with locals fine-tuning their town’s “party persona” to reflect current trends and attitudes.
The Thread
Let's pretend every town in the Hudson Valley is a "person" at a party. What is each "person" doing at the party?

Even as a transplant from Massachusetts, I find the humor spot on.
Whether it’s Beacon whining about the "good old days" Or Red Hook grilling in cargo shorts.
The exaggerated truths hit home for anyone familiar with the area.
