I am always worried about this kind of thing happening.

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, an employee of a Stewart's Shop in Wappingers, put a skimming device, which takes personal data, to the store's ATM, stealing thousands of dollars over a period of time.

Police are charging David J. Marrine with first degree falsifying business records and third degree grand larceny.

Police say that Marrine allegedly stole more than $12,000 from the in store ATM using a skimming device.

Police warn that if the ATM machine that you are using doesn't quite look right or it seems like something is attached to to the area where you swipe your ATM card, don not swipe your card and contact the bank and or the authorities.

David Marrine was arraigned in the Town of Wappinger Justice Court and released under Dutchess County Probation's supervision. He is scheduled to reappear in court on Oct. 18.

Here is what one type of ATM looks like with and without the skimmer. Look closely at the insert card area. The one on the right has the device on it.
