UPDATE: Danbury Police Chief Patrick Ridenhour provided an update that included some preliminary details regarding the shooting. Read more here.

The Danbury Police Department is reportedly on the scene investigating what they're describing as an officer involved shooting.

According to a press release from the DPD, the incident occurred Wednesday morning, July 3, in the area of Old Ridgebury Rd. and Reserve Rd.

As it stands right now, members of the Connecticut State Police have responded and are currently beginning an investigation of their own, as is typical standard protocal when an officer is involved with a shooting.

Police ask that residents avoid the area for the time being, as the investigation is active and ongoing.

City Mayor Mark Boughton took to social media to explain that while the area of Ridgebury Rd. off of exit 2 on I-84 will be closed for several hours, the officer involved in the shooting is okay and that there is no danger to residents.

This is a developing story and we'll be sure to keep you updated as more information rolls in.
