Over 1,700 IBM employees will soon be out of a job.

On Thursday, IBM confirmed they are going to lay off around 17-hundred employees, which is less than one percent of the company's total workforce. The layoffs were first reported by TheLayoff, an online message board, and then confirmed by the tech-giant.

“We are continuing to reposition our team to align with our focus on the high-value segments of the IT market, and we also continue to hire aggressively in critical new areas that deliver value for our clients and IBM,” a company spokesperson said to CNBC.

Despite the upcoming layoffs, the company points out it's continuing to grow and currently has over 77-hundred openings.

IBM is finalizing purchasing software giant Red Hat for $34 million. That deal will likely go final later this year.

IBM also cut jobs in 2016 and 2017. It's unclear at this time if any Hudson Valley residents working for IBM will be laid off.
