On Tuesday afternoon a pedestrian was struck by a car on Partition Street in the Village of Saugerties and ended up in Kingston Hospital for treatment for sustained injuries.

According to Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra, a 66-year-old male from West Park stepped off the curb into the Northbound lane of Partition Street (US 9W) and was struck by a Subaru Outback driven by a 77-year-old from Saugerties.

Paramedics from Diaz Ambulance joined first responders from the Village of Saugerties FD near Montano's Shoe Store to treat the pedestrian.  He was transported to Kingston Hospital for treatment of shoulder and hip injuries.

In addition to the injuries sustained by the pedestrian, he also received a citation from the Saugerties Police Department.  The citation was for a violation contained within the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law Section 1152 -§ 1152, commonly referred to as "Jaywalking."  The actual definition is defined as Crossing at other than crosswalks. (a) Every pedestrian crossing a roadway at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection shall yield the right of way to all vehicles upon the roadway.
