They explained the change stating that although they are currently listed as a provider on the New York State Medicaid website, they have been unable to bill Medicaid for the prescriptions they've already filled for the last 30 months.

"Although we are listed as a provider on the NYS MEDICAID website, we have been unable to bill MEDICAID for the last 30 months (2 1/2 years!) Our business cannot sustain such losses any longer."

The drugstore did say it is still accepting Medicare and most insurances and will work with any customer who still wants to fill their Medicaid prescriptions at the pharmacy, saying it will "gladly" fill them as long as the customer covers the cost of the medication.

Medicaid Problems for New York Pharmacies

The Hopewell Drugstore said that they aren't the only independent pharmacy in Dutchess County that has been dealing with reimbursement issues with the federal and state program saying, "We are NOT the only independent pharmacy in Dutchess County that has been cut off from submitting claims. Hopefully, this can be resolved soon, so us independents can compete with the big guys again."

The owners ended their post by apologizing to their customers for any inconvenience.
