Tragic Scene Unfolds After Man Jumps From Newburgh-Beacon Bridge
A 59-year-old man has died after police say he intentionally jumped from the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge into the Hudson River on Saturday.

According to the New York State Police, the tragic incident happened Saturday morning, August 22, when emergency crews were called to the area after a report of a man floating in the Hudson River near the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge in Orange County, NY.
Police said troopers from the Montgomery barracks responded to a 911 call at approximately 11:24 a.m. reporting that an adult male was in the water in the Town of Newburgh.
During the investigation, members of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Montgomery determined that the man had intentionally jumped from the walkway on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.

Police say the 59-year-old man entered the Hudson River at approximately 11:19 a.m., just minutes before the 911 call was made. Once on the scene, emergency crews launched a rescue operation to locate and retrieve the man from the river.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol Unit was able to retrieve the victim from the Hudson River. He was then transported to Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The man's identity has not been released by authorities at this time.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by the New York State Police. When more information is released, we will update this article.
