A woman from Orange County, NY is celebrating after a routine stop at a gas station in Middletown turned into a $1 million lottery win.

Most of us at one time or another have stopped at one of our local convenience stores for a snack, a coffee, some gas, and maybe a scratch-off ticket, right? I don't do it every time, but a few times a month I'll roll the dice and buy a scratch-off hoping that today's the day I finally win big. Unfortunately, it hasn't happened yet, but it did happen for one lucky lady in Middletown, NY.

Woman Wins $1 Million on Scratch-Off in Middletown, NY

Congratulations to Penny Smith of Middletown, who is now living our dream after claiming a $1 million top prize on a New York Lottery scratch-off game. According to the New York Lottery, Smith won the top prize on the 50Xtra scratch-off game.

The winning $5 ticket was purchased at East Main Sunoco, located at 209 East Main Street in Middletown, NY. While the ticket was worth $1 million, Smith won't be taking home the entire million dollars. She chose to receive her winnings as a single lump-sum payment and, after required withholdings, received $442,681.

Still, that's certainly not a bad payday for a scratch-off ticket.

And if you are someone who likes to try your luck with New York Lottery scratch-offs, there is still a little bit of hope left on this particular game. As of the latest information from the New York Lottery, there was still one $1 million top prize remaining on the 50Xtra game.

Hudson Valley Lottery Winners Keep Getting Lucky

Smith's big win is just the latest in a long list of major lottery prizes won by people across the Hudson Valley.

And it didn't stop there.

A $10 million Ultimate Cash scratch-off prize was also claimed by an LLC based in Lagrangeville after the winning ticket was purchased at the Price Chopper on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie. After taxes and withholdings, the winner received $4,420,300.
