Woman Dies After Car Leaves Roadway, Catches Fire in Monroe, NY

A woman was tragically killed early Sunday morning after the vehicle she was driving left the roadway and caught fire in Orange County, NY.

According to the New York State Police, a 56-year-old woman has died following a crash and vehicle fire on Cedar Cliff Road in the Town of Monroe, NY. Police said that at approximately 2:26 a.m. on Sunday, September 6th, troopers from the Monroe barracks came upon a vehicle fire while on patrol.

Troopers proceeded to call for additional first responders to help, including the Town of Monroe Fire Department, which responded to the scene and was able to extinguish the fire.

Once the fire was out, police were able to identify the sole occupant of the vehicle as 56-year-old Jodi Lester of Monroe, NY. Lester was extricated from the vehicle but was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Following the accident, police announced that their preliminary investigation determined Lester was driving a 2020 Hyundai when, for reasons that remain unknown, the vehicle left the roadway and caught fire.

Several agencies assisted New York State Police at the scene, including the Town of Monroe Fire Department, Town of Monroe Police Department, Orange County Fire Investigators, Town of Monroe EMS, the Troop F Forensic Investigation Unit and the Troop F Collision Reconstruction Unit.
