NFL Dating Scam Takes a Wild Syracuse University Turn

Have you been following this crazy dating scam? It's been my favorite story over the last week or so.

35 Year Old Pretends To Be NFL Player, Scams Several Women

On August 25th, 2026, the United States Attorney's Office District of Oregon announced the arrest of Daejon Labrayae Love and Taylor Jamie Chan.

The 2 men were accused of running a dating scam since February 2022. According to the US Attorney's Office Love and Chen created "fictious investments to defraud numerous women in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California."

Love would connect with the women on dating apps and Chan would "pose as Love's financial adviser" to gain the trust of their victims. Reports claim that Love would pose as a professional football player, playing for the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, several women fell for the dating scam. Love and Chen were able to collect somewhere near $1.3 million. The dynamic duo were arrested and in federal custody.

And Now, There's a New York Twist in the Daejon Love Dating Scam

Since the scam was shared nation wide, more stories and videos have come out of Love's scamming ways. Many of the times Love would send videos of himself in fancy cars, "training" in 49er gear or he would send voice memos with information that sounded legitimate. In total 26 women fell for the scam, but there were others that caught on to the wide deceiver trickery. One woman came forward with screenshots of the conversation. In said conversation Love claims he played college football at Syracuse University. The Instagram account Syracuse History posted to their account writing:

I haven’t seen this reported yet, but according to messages shared by potential victims - screenshots of DMs - the college he claimed to have played football for was Syracuse University

Love claims that he was injured before the first game and never ended up playing. SUUUURE.

If you or someone you know had contact with Daejon Love, the FBI wants to hear from you.

On the Justice.gov website they write "The FBI encourages anyone having information on Daejon Love or Taylor Chan to contact the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov/ or to call 1-800-CALL-FBI."

According to the US Attorney's Office Daejon Love went by several aliases including "Jon Love, Daejon Love, Avril Lyto Love, and Jordan Love."
