
Officer Allegedly Punched While Breaking Up Fight in Poughkeepsie
A suspect is facing charges after allegedly trying to punch a police officer who was attempting to break up a fight early Sunday morning in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Numerous law enforcement agencies in Dutchess County had their hands full early Sunday morning as they attempted to stop a fight between several subjects that were exiting a concert at a venue near Academy Street in the City of Poughkeepsie, NY.
Concert Ends in Fight in Poughkeepsie, NY
According to a statement shared by the City of Poughkeepsie PBA, the incident unfolded around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2026, in the area of 33 Academy Street in Poughkeepsie.
Officers from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department were conducting a foot patrol in the area to provide a presence for a large concert taking place nearby. Members of the New York State Police were also in the area assisting with security.

While on patrol, officers observed a fight involving several individuals. Police say the altercation quickly drew a large crowd, creating a chaotic and potentially dangerous situation.
Subject Attempts to Punch Police Officer
As officers worked to separate those involved in the fight, one individual allegedly swung a closed fist at one of the officers. Police said as they attempted to arrest the suspect, a large crowd began to surround officers, and reportedly threatened them with physical harm.
A mutual aid request was immediately sent out to other area law enforcement agencies, prompting a response from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, and the MTA Police.
With additional units on scene, officers were able to disperse the crowd and regain control of the area.
So far, authorities have not released the suspect’s name or any additional details regarding the charges. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. When more information is available, we will update this article.
