
Poughkeepsie Woman Sent Drug Covered Mail to Inmates at a New York Prison
A 30-year-old Poughkeepsie woman has been charged with allegedly sending drug-coated mail to inmates at two New York State prisons.
The New York State Police are reporting the arrest of a Poughkeepsie woman after they say she soaked pieces of mail with a synthetic drug and mailed them to several inmates who are serving time at two New York State prisons.
Poughkeepsie, NY Woman Allegedly Soaked Mail With Drugs
According to WRGB, 30 year old Elyse DeGeorge, of Poughkeepsie, NY was arrested last week and charged with three counts of first-degree promoting prison contraband after authorities determined she sent mail that was soaked with narcotics to several inmates at the Five Points Correctional Facility, in Romulus, NY, as well as Coxsackie Correctional Facility in Coxsackie, NY.
Police said that during its investigation they conducted a search at DeGeorge's residence which resulted in the seizure of K2 a synthetic drug that affects the same area of the brain as cannabis (weed) K2 is packaged under numerous brand names, including, Spice, Green Giant, Bizarro, Geeked Up, Smacked, and AK-47 according to the New York City Department of Health. In New York State, it is illegal to possess, sell, offer to sell, or manufacture synthetic cannabinoids.

Police said that the drug was sprayed on paper, along with a mail stamp and priority mail envelopes. Following her arrest, DeGeorge was arraigned and sent to the Dutchess County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.
Not Her First Time in Trouble
According to WHAM, this isn't DeGeorge's first encounter with police that involved illegal drugs. Back in June 2021, DeGeorge and five other suspects were arrested after they allegedly ordered counterfeit pills on the dark web. According to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, its Drug Task Force dismantled a "local criminal enterprise" which was operating out of the Zaid Market and Deli located at 541 Main Street in the city of Poughkeepsie, NY in 2021.
The store owner, Rami Nshaiwat, and his employees were distributing quantities of illegal opioid pills that were obtained by DeGeorge's. She pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to two years of probation.
