Hudson Valley Charity Hit by Theft But Volunteers Stay Strong

It's hard to understand why anyone would target a charity that spends its days helping people battling cancer, but that's exactly what appears to have happened at one of the most giving charities in the Hudson Valley.

Sparrow's Nest, a Hudson Valley nonprofit that is known for preparing and delivering homemade meals to families facing a cancer diagnosis, is now dealing with an unexpected setback after someone reportedly stole supplies from its property.

In a message shared on social media, Sparrow's Nest said it appears that someone stole several garden hoses and a garden timer, while also cutting through parts of the organization's irrigation system. The damage has left volunteers with repairs and replacement costs they never expected to face.

"Guys..... I'm a bit sad," the organization wrote. "It looks like someone stole a bunch of our garden hoses, our garden timer, cut through our irrigation system, and basically left us with a mess we have to replace."

According to the post, the theft and damage may have happened sometime within the last two weeks. Sparrow's Nest said it has security cameras on the property and plans to review footage in hopes of identifying whoever is responsible.

The organization located at 10 Town Center Blvd in Hopewell Junction, NY, is asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity or who has information about the incident to reach out privately.

Nothing Can Stop Sparrow's Nest

What makes the situation even more frustrating is that Sparrow's Nest relies heavily on volunteers and community support to continue its mission of helping local families during some of the most difficult times of their lives. Instead of focusing solely on serving those families, staff and volunteers are now being forced to spend time and resources replacing stolen and damaged equipment.

Despite the disappointing discovery, the nonprofit said its volunteers didn't let the incident stop them.

"On a brighter note, our volunteers got a lot of work done today despite the setback," the organization shared.

Hopefully, someone in the community recognizes what happened and can help provide information that leads to answers. Stealing from any charity is disappointing, but stealing from one dedicated to helping cancer patients and their families takes it to another level.
