If your kids are fascinated by police cars, fire trucks, K9s, and emergency vehicles, one upcoming event in Ulster County is giving Hudson Valley families the chance to get an up-close look at the people who help keep our communities safe every day.

Behind the Badge Event in Ulster County, NY

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office is inviting the public to a free “Behind The Badge” family event happening Saturday, May 30, 2026, at The Kingston Plaza located at 151 Plaza Road in Kingston, New York. The event will run from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. with a rain date scheduled for May 31st.

According to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, the goal of the event is simple...bring the community together and give families an opportunity to meet and interact with first responders in a fun, family-friendly environment.

Organizers say more than 20 first-responder agencies and community partners are expected to participate in the event, including police departments, firefighters, sheriff’s deputies, probation officers, and New York State Police.

Things to Do in Ulster County, NY

Families attending the event will be able to take part in a long list of activities, including child ID stations, child car seat safety checks, special unit demonstrations, raffles, games, and other family-friendly activities. Plus, they will be offering axe-throwing and food throughout the event.

Kids will have the chance to see emergency vehicles up close and possibly meet some of the special units and K9 teams that work throughout Ulster County.

Events like this have become more popular across the Hudson Valley over the last few years as police agencies continue looking for new ways to connect with the communities they serve outside of emergency situations.

Admission to the “Behind The Badge” event is completely free and open to the public.
