High-Speed Crash Causes Fiery Rollover on New York State Thruway

A late-night crash on the New York State Thruway in Ulster County left one vehicle overturned and engulfed in flames, and now New York State Police are asking for the public's help as the investigation continues.

According to New York State Police, it happened at approximately 11:57 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, when troopers assigned to Thruway Albany responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 87 northbound near Exit 19 in the Town of Ulster.

Upon arrival, troopers launched an investigation that revealed a 2016 BMW X3 was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when it slammed into the rear of a U-Haul trailer being towed by a 2024 Subaru.

Police said the impact caused the Subaru driver to lose control, causing the vehicle to roll over before becoming fully engulfed in flames.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to assist at the scene, including State Police from Thruway Kingston, Troop F, the Troop F Collision Reconstruction Unit, and the Ulster County Sheriff's Office.

Investigation Continues

As of this writing, authorities have not released any information regarding injuries or the identities of those involved, as the investigation remains active. When additional information becomes available, we will update this article.

State Police are now asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward. Investigators with the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Kingston are seeking additional information and encourage witnesses to contact State Police at (845) 344-5300.

Anyone who was traveling on the Thruway near Exit 19 around the time of the crash and may have dash camera footage is also encouraged to contact investigators.
