The Dutchess Shopping Plaza on Route 9 in Wappingers Falls, New York has evolved over the years. Do you remember what was there back in the 90s?

Dutchess Shopping Plaza in Wappingers Falls is Booming With Local Business

If you've ever driven up or down Route 9 in Wappingers Falls, you've passed the Dutchess Shopping Plaza. It's home to local businesses like Los Hornitos (one of if not the best Mexican bakeries in the Hudson Valley), Nonnas Pizza and Tony's Gyro and Grill.

Last year the Grinelle Library shared a photo of the Dougherty homestead which used to sit right behind the Dutchess Shopping Plaza, closer to the Imperial Plaza.

While I enjoyed the throwback courtesy of the Grinnell Library, I've been trying to figure out what Dutchess Shopping Plaza looked like in the 90s.

What Was in the Dutchess Shopping Plaza in the 90s?

I grew up in Poughkeepsie in the 90s and I remember all the childhood staples, like Fun Central and Osho Japanese Steakhouse. Now, Route 9 is a shell of what it used to be. But Dutchess Shopping Plaza still stands.

While enjoying an Entemann's dessert with my family over the weekend the conversation triggered a memory of the plaza in Wappingers Falls. For some reason, I remembered going into a store in the Dutchess Shopping Plaza as a child, so probably sometime between 1995-1999.

It was filled with bread and snacks. I can so vividly remember the sweet smell in the store and running my fingers over the bags of bread while my mom shopped. But for the life of me I can't remember.. what it a Hostess store or a Freihofer's outlet?

Freihofer's makes the most sense because I'm pretty sure it's a Hudson Valley-based company. But I can't be sure... none of my searches have provided me with a definite answer.

If you consider yourself a Hudson Valley historian I'd love to know what store it was or if my 90s memories are just a fever dream.

If this conversation had you reliving all your 90s Dutchess County memories, we go even more in-depth with these throwback photos of the Poughkeepsie Galleria. It was the place to be back in the day, right?
