Local Bourbons To Celebrate National Bourbon Day
June 14, 2017 is National Bourbon Day. Is it a coincidence that it is on Flag Day, being that bourbon is a 'true American whiskey' or that it comes just a few days before Father's Day? I think that it is a perfect reason to do a little research into which local, Hudson Valley, bourbons that you might want to get Dad for Father's Day.
Here are a few that you might want to try:
- Hudson Baby Bourbon, Tuthilltown Distillery Gardiner (Spirit Society Members click here) Try it on the rocks or with a few drops of water.
- Black Dirt Bourbon, Warwick Distilling. This is one of my favorite NYS bourbons to have in a cocktail because of it's extra spiciness.
- Hillrock Distilling, Solera Aged Bourbon. This bourbon is unique in that it uses a Solera aging system to craft it's signature flavor and styly.
- Beacon Bourbon, Dennings Point Distillery. Make sure you try the Bourbon and the Whiskey. What's the difference? The grain make up and the aging. To really understand the difference try them side by side. Notice the difference between the two, then ask questions of the person in the tasting room. You will know the answer and then be able to impress your Dad and your friends.
- Orange County Distillery at Brown Barn Farms, Bourbon Whiskey.
- Catskill Distilling, Bethel, Most Righteous Bourbon. This is also a place that you should check out if you are already heading to Bethel Woods to see a show. Ask them how this particular bourbon got it's name. It's a cute story.
