Authorities believe a man fired as many as 33 shots during the commuter rush Tuesday morning in a subway station in Brooklyn. The shooter put on a gas mask and released smoke bombs before firing off 33 shots inside the crowded subway.

It's believed the shooter could have fired more if the gun didn't potentially jam, officials say.

It's believed James rented a U-Haul in Philadelphia and drove it to New York City. The keys to the van were found at the subway station.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed Wednesday morning the manhunt for James continues.

"We treat today's attack in Brooklyn with complete and urgent seriousness," Westchester County Executive George Latimer stated. "Westchester County Police are deploying additional officers to railroads stations and other transit hubs. County officers will join other police departments at local stations and other public transit hubs."
