A Maryland man admitted he sexually abused and later raped a Hudson Valley child he met online.

On Tuesday in Ulster County Court, 49-year-old Daniel K. Poole of Port Deposit, M.D., pleaded guilty to rape and criminal sexual act, both felonies.

Poole admitted that in June of 2016, he engaged in oral sex with a 14-year-old in Ulster County. He also admitted that in October of 2016, he returned to Ulster County and raped the same child.

An investigation into Poole began in January when officers noticed suspicious activity while participating in K9 training in Rifton, within the Town of Esopus, which led to the discovery that Poole was there to meet a minor.

Police determined that Poole met the child online and had inappropriate exchanges with the minor online for almost a year.

Poole traveled to the Hudson Valley on several occasions to engage in sexual acts with the child knowing that the child was underage, police say.

Poole faces up to 11 years in prison when sentenced in October. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
