The Painful Reason For Igloo’s Expanded Recall on Over 1 Million Coolers
With the summer months approaching, the last thing you want to worry about is getting injured at the beach or at a backyard BBQ.
Igloo has announced an extended recall on a popular product used by many whether it be at home or on the road.
Igloo Announces Recall In February of 2025
Back in February of 2025, Igloo announced the recall of their IGLOO 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers manufactured before January of 2024.
United State Consumer Product Safety Commission explained the coolers affected have tow handles, IGLOO printed on the side, and the coolers were "sold in multiple body and lid combinations."
The coolers that were recalled had model numbers located on labels "affixed to the bottom of the cooler."
At that time 1,060,000 recalled units were sold in the nation along with about 47,000 in Canada and 23,000 in Mexico.
The Dangerous Reason Why IGLOO Coolers Have Been Recalled
The IGLOO coolers named in the recall in February of 2025 were pulled for a dangerous reason.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission explains:
The tow handle can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards.
In February, there were 12 reports of finger tip injuries including The firm has received fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations.
At the time IGLOO alerted consumers to "immediately stop using the recalled coolers" and to contact Igloo for a free replacement handle.
Months Later, IGLOO Expands Recall
The recalled IGLOO products were reportedly sold at Costco, Target, Academy, Dick’s online at Amazon.com, Igloocoolers.co and other stores and websites nationwide between January 2019 and January 2025.
Earlier this week, IGLOO expanded their recall of an additional 130,000 cooler in nationwide, 20,000 in Canada and 5,900 in Mexico.
In the updated May IGLOO recall, there have been "78 reports of fingertip injuries, including 26 resulting in fingertip amputations, bone fractures or lacerations" according to the Safety Commission. For more details on the recall visit CPSC.gov.
