I'll be the first one to admit it - I complain - a lot.

Usually about the drivers that so many of us encounter on a regular basis on the Hudson Valley's highly traveled roadways (and even sometimes on the back roads).

Sometimes about the heat and humidity - especially during this time of year, and most definitely lately with all the humid, rainy days we have had lately. It just isn't good for my hair.

Everyone's Favorite Enemy Returns to the Hudson Valley

Today's complaint though, I think most people can relate to, as nobody seems to enjoy the presence of these little buggers, I mean bugs, we're talking mosquitos.

Those little tiny blood sucking pests have returned with a vengeance and have been leaving welts on unsuspecting passers-by for a few weeks now. During the spring and early summer months I love a nice stroll around the neighborhood after dinner, or a meal al-fresco on the deck, but with the amount of bites i've accumulated already, I have to admit inside is looking and feeling a lot better than outside these days.

Myth or Fact: Mosquitos Bite People Because Their Blood Is Sweet

Growing up I was always the kid covered head to toe in welts after being outside for 30 seconds, and I constantly heard 'you must have sweet blood, those mosquitos love you!'

Back then the commentary was funny, these days not so much.

Turns out, all of that 'sweet blood' talk was nonsense, as it is a complete MYTH that mosquitos bite because you are sweet, in fact, just the opposite. According to verywellhealth, mosquitos are not drawn to specific sweetness in the blood, but rather certain factors like body oder and sweat - perfect.

If you're a mosquito magnet, it's because you have more of what attracts mosquitoes. Studies show that 20% of people are particularly irresistible to these pests. Mosquitoes may bite you more for various reasons, including your blood type, clothes, body odor, and the bacteria living on your skin.

Anyway, happy summer!
