A months-long investigation has concluded with an arrest of a Hudson Valley man after he was caught on camera allegedly sabotaging an area used by local mountain bikers.

The Hudson Valley is a nature-lover's paradise, and many of the scenic trails across the region are enjoyed by everyone from hikers and bikers to horseback riders and even snowmobilers. Unfortunately, it seems that not everyone is eager to share.

An investigation in Peekskill, NY began in late 2024 after reports came in from multiple mountain bikers about sticks, branches, and other material that had seemingly been placed intentionally across a trail.

Mountain Biking at Blue Mountain Reservation in Westchester County, NY

The trail, located in Blue Mountain Reservation in Westchester County, is a favorite for many residents, including a local mountain biking group. After reporting the incident to Westchester County Police, the group set up a trail camera in an attempt to catch the culprit.

Peekskill Man Caught on Camera Obstructing Bike Trail

The video (below) shows the suspect, who police only identified as a 44-year-old Peekskill resident, dragging and throwing branches across the bottom of a steep incline, actions police described as "potentially exposing bikers to serious injury". The man was charged with 2nd degree Criminal Nuisance.

Internet Responds to Arrest for Bike Trail Obstruction in Peekskill, NY

"Thank you for this investigation, the injuries he could have caused would have been deadly or disabling", shared one mountain bike enthusiast.

"As a mountain biker that has used these woods for more than 30 years I have [seen] the progressive destruction that unauthorized trails are creating in the woods... [but] blocking the trails as this jerk did is not the way to handle the situation", shared another.
