Ever since I was a kid I have loved walking through the woods in the Hudson Valley. Growing up on Storm King Mountain there was always a trail to follow. Hiking through the back country of the Hudson Valley has become a thrill for a lot of people lately. Traversing our local trails is a pass time most of us can enjoy. Whether you are looking to walk a rail trail or hoping to challenge yourself on a back woods hike it is always a good idea to be able to read the trail.

You may think you know what to expect, especially if you are using trails that are popular with Hudson Valley hikers. But the truth is any trail can become tricky under the right circumstances. It is important that you learn how to read a trail. The Mohonk Mountain House is hosting an event that can help you be a more aware hiker.

Join them for The Art of Nature Awareness with Mohonk's Naturalist, Michael Ridolfo. Michael will teach you and the group time-tested principles of tracking and nature observation. You will learn authentic survival skills and how to react spontaneously to things that occur as you travel through nature.

The Art of Nature Awareness will be held August 24th through the 28th. The overnight stay event hosted by the Mohonk Mountain House has limited space and must be booked in advance. For more information on what is included in the package and to book your stay visit: https://www.mohonk.com/events/nature-outdoors/nature-awareness/ you can also call (888) 447-9580 to make reservations.

Enjoy a week at on of America's most beautiful resorts right here in the Hudson Valley and learn secrets to the trail that will have you looking at hiking and walking on nature trails in a whole new way.
