
New School Year, New Bus Routes for Some HV Schools
School is just weeks away for many Hudson Valley students, but they way many of them arrive in the morning will be different.
Taking the school bus is a rite of passage for nearly everyone in New York State, and while the buses themselves haven't changed much, many of the routes that they travel have.
Highland Central School District Releases 2025-2026 Bus Routes
Many districts, including Highland Central School District in Ulster County, also reminded students about proper bus stop etiquette, including arriving at designated bus stops five minutes early, and avoiding eating, drinking, and smoking on the bus.
School Bus Safety in the Hudson Valley
Another section addresses school bus safety, specifically focussing on students getting on or off the bus:
- Always follow the driver’s directions about how to cross the street.
- Be alert to traffic, look both ways, and always walk in front of the bus.
- Follow “Check before you step”.
- Walk 10 feet up from the bus – “I see you, you see me.”
- Wait for a driver’s signal to cross the roadway
School Bus Enforcement Detail for Hudson Valley Drivers
With many Hudson Valley counties putting greater resources into "School Bus Enforcement Detail", drivers should also be aware of how to safely share the road with school buses, including never passing a stopped school bus with its stop sign extended.
